Mainly security and anti-piracy. But the main disadvantages is that most xp application do not work. Only 121 applications have been approved with microsoft to be capable of the new system. Unfortunately, I have just recently bought a fairly fast laptop and all it came shipped with was Windows Vista Home Premium. I would have to say that this system is by far the worst system I have ever used. Not only is it incapable of nearly everything, it get more BSOD's than most of their distribution like 98, 98se, 2000, and XP. This version of Windows is most likely going to cause economic disasters due to most of the corporate world is still with the OEM version of Xp Professional in which Microsoft will stop support for in early 2008 and XP will be done in 2009 no longer having support. I do not know about any of you wanting to stay with this company, but I have had better luck with Linux. Currently I use SuSe 10.1 by Novell and it works flawlessly. So far, the system hasn't crashed and I have been using it for almost a year alongside with Windows XP Home Edition which will crash every now and then. Basically Xp to me is only good for the wireless features that it has. Linux is currently incapable of most wireless cards and many vendors do not support it. But, if you want to use wireless with Linux and this will work on most distributions, use "ndiswrapper" package to configure it. It has worked with few flaws. Depending on your wireless model, it will either work perfectly, good, some problems, or will crash your system (But not in a bad way). If it crashes your system, all you will need to do is a cold boot (Just holding the power button or flip the switch on the main power in the back of the computer until it turns off), then restart the system. The crash will generally not do anything and "ndiswrapper" will not load on boot; fortunately. I dont know if any of you would like to upgrade to such a piece-of-junk system or if your computer is capable of it, but Linux is for me. One more thing, all of those computers that are made for Windows ME and below will not run Windows Vista withought completely changing the motherboard and most to all of the inner components of your pc. Here's some stats about memory usage of Vista. RAM Usage: 512mb (minimum) HD Space: 2-4gb Video: Any card capable of supporting Windows Aero. which generally are ones from the last 3-5 years. All I have to say is it is up to you. I just really dislike the system. Windows Vista has many advantages to it. Mainly security and anti-piracy. Looks like they want customers to pay 100% attention to their new OS.. So far Vista does not look good to me...may be 2 or 3 years later, its worth to move to Vista OS... I really hope there is Google OS and we all could get a benefit of real competitor to Microsoft OS business.
