Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 Vs Fifa 08 : Who will win this time ?
The footie season of gaming is about to begin this October with two of the gaming giants EA Sports and Konami fighting for the top honors. The rivalry between EA’s glamorous FIFA and Konami’s traditional and more football savvy PES is exciting as we see in real life domestic competition. Now as the time approaches , the battle is going to become much bigger and bitter. Lets take a preview at both the games.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2008
This year Konami has decided to call it PES 2008 instead of PES 7 so that it doesnt appear outdated in front of FIFA 08 (the same reason XBOX successor was called XBOX 360 instead of XBOX 2). PES 2008 is going to be a revolutionary step of Konami and will bring it much more closer to FIFA in terms of glamour and team. The most talked about feature of this games is going to be its revolutionary Artificial Engine called TeamVision.
TeamVision is going to add more life to the Master League mode or other single player modes of PES 2008. Now you will face stiff competitions from teams which you could have walked over before. This time the AI will learn and adapt to your strategies. The AI teams will try different attacking options and will even try to exploit your weakness. For example , if an AI finds out that your Central Defenders are not good at winning headers , then they will start pumping crosses at you constantly unless there striker can score goals. Now you will have to make substiutions in order to change tactics and not just to being a fresh pair.
There are going to be massive changes in set-pieces too , according to Konami , the talented players can score goals from free kicks which was a bit difficult in earlier versions. The ball control will also be enhanced along with a new sets of feints and dribbles to take the ball past your opponents.
FIFA 08
FIFA 08 is not going to be left far behind. This time it boasts of having around 620 licensed teams , over 30 official leagues and more than 15000 players , around 20% more of what was there in FIFA 07. The AI system is also going to be enhanced with a 35 point decision engine making complex decisions in between a match. It will feature a new “Be a Pro” mode which will enable you to play the entire match as a single player (this feature is already in PES). There will be onscreen alerts to guide you if you are out of position or you can also change to Normal mode on between if you feel you are not doing justice to it.
This time shooting in FIFA is more enhanced than before. It is going to be much more responsive to your movements and controls. Players like gerrard , Beckham , Rooney will be able to pull there trademark shots.
However the difference between FIFA and PES is going to be the same like before with PES concentrating more on gameplay and FIFA more on original teams and licenses. But hey ,i could be wrong. Both the games will be out by October i guess , lets hope there demo comes out soon so i can give both of them a try. I have always been a big fan of PES due to its much more realistic gameplay. if you play football and you’re good or enjoy what the game is then you are a PES because its more realistic when you dribble past an adversary you know it was the moves that you anticipated and reacted on what got you throw and makes you feel like you’re ronaldo or cicinho but if you’ve only played soccer in video games then you have nothing to compare the real feeling of a soccer match where you have to think faster and perform the moves and keep your cool in front of the goalie and you’ll be a FIFA fan because the games does every thing for you. i’ve played both games every new release sience internatinal super star soccer back in SNES which i think was like the predecessor of Winning Eleven and every time konami rules. of course Fifa has all the leagues with original names but the names dont make the player its the characteristics of each player, pros and cons, but now PES is plannig to realease a mexican league and that is gonna sell like crazy over here in Mexico because gameplay in fifa just doesnt cut it for the average soccer player in Mexico as well as i’m sure in europe and offcourse japan cause i bet nobody buys Fifa in japan since they allways take the best of what’s out there and Pro Evolution Soccer is the shitznee

you obviously don’t play the football for real otherwise you would know the gameplay on PES is much more realistic, and as for you saying fifa wins on graphics, yes they maybe all nice and shiny but if that’s all that matters to you then your not a true gamer either. Any real gamer would know that the gameplay makes a game. The graphics are different but not necesarily better, all the characters are just mapped images on similar models whereas on PES each player is indiviually built.
i think that’s in correct saying someone doesn’t know football just because he prefers FIFA over pro evolution. I think that’s in correct. You can have a football purist who likes the likes of arsenal who loves the football they play but still support Liverpool (who just boot the ball). Now because of that are we going to say he doesn’t know football. Everyone has a different point of view and shit don’t go dismissing them.
well your entitled to you opinion…but this isn’t like saying you prefer Arsenal or Liverpools way of playing the game this is how the game is portrayed on a video game…and FIFA is just not realistic…simply put. You can play as Arsenal and Liverpool in both games and you can play the game however you want – you can play as Liverpool and play like Arsenal and viceversa. But the simple face it FIFA 08 doesn’t match up to the realistic movements, speed, abilities applied in football and PES is a much better, closer example of those properties.
Anyway…the argument now moves on to PES2009 and FIFA09
After playing the FIFA 09 demo i feel it has improved however the players take ages to respond to any action, e.g. pass, turn, shoot…even with this problem it’s still really easy to score from distance (18+ yards).
i think fifa i would give it a 100 out of 100 and pes 90 out of 90
