Camera phones to work as Computer Mouse soon

camera-phone-computer-mouseAs the time progresses, new innovations are happening in technology. Researchers at York University, United Kingdom have developed a software through which you can use your camera phones to work as computer mouse also. Yes this is true , believe me.

With the help of this technology, camera enabled mobile phones can be used to scroll public displays and get more information on products such as movie tickets, interaction with real estate and ad displays.

Using the technology, you will have to rotate your camera phones in front of your computer screen as you rotate your mouse on the mouse pad. Users will have to place the mobile phone in front of the screen to establish a Bluetooth connection.Once the connection is established, the user will be informed where the handset is pointed on the screen and then user will be able to perform the functions of the mouse. This technology transforms the the movements and rotations of device which are in 3d format to that of onscreen cursor.

However, at present, the technology is still a “prototype” and it would require some more time for proper development. According to a researcher Nick Pears,

The applications of this technology are limitless. However, at the moment the technology is still under development and multiple issues are being addressed. The image capture and image processing rate on the cell phone is quite slow, and so you can not move the cell phone as quickly as you would like to. This is what we would like to address in our next prototype.

The technology currently supports Symbian and and Windows Mobile Operating system camera phones.

    3. A mouse being moved by a camera phone? We already have wireless mouse, don’t we? How will this technology help us, then? And moreover, how can a camera point at a particular pixel at the screen?

      I think the technolgy will be quite helful to access public ads information on large screen . And as Ashish suggested , i think it will be similar to how wii works by using a bluetooth connection

      @Chuck
      lol, i dont think we will be able to play games using it. And thanks for reminding me, recently i upgraded wordpress and disabled a few plugins and then forgot to turn them back on . Subscribe to comments is back on now.

    9. This idea just wont work. To be precise in pointing your pointer, you need to keep the device on the ground and use its friction. Air simply won’t do.

      P.s. No puns intended.
