Avidemux is a free video editing software that can be used for cutting, filtering and encoding tasks. You can perform these simple tasks very easily as compared to other similar software which makes these so confusing. It supports a variety of files including avi, mpeg, mp4, asf etc and also a variety of codecs.

The interface is very simple and easy to use. To cut a video, you just have to select the section which you want to remove. This can be done by both incremental and multi second advance and rewind tools. To convert a video, just select the output file type from a list and save the file. It also has some advanced functions like generic decoder, user defined filters, post processing tools etc.

This program can appeal both to simple as well as advanced users. It is a freeware and is available for Windows, Linux, Mac under GPU license.
