Assign Categories Plugin

Assign Categories is a wordpress plugin which allows you to assign one or more Categories to multiple posts with a single click. A few days ago while working on one of my blogs, i deleted a few categories and added some new ones. The default functionality allowed me to edit each post and assign categories. If there are a lot of posts, this task would be too tedious and will take a lot of time. This is where this plugin comes in handy.

Just upload the plugin file to your “Plugin” directory and activate the plugin. To use it, go to ‘ Manage – > Assign Categories’. A page will show the list of available categories along with the blog posts. You can then select the posts along with the categories and click on ‘Assign Categories’ button. Then all your selected posts will get assigned to that selected categories. If you want, you can also preserver your existing categories to which the posts belonged. The plugin also has a search functionality to help you search for posts.

The plugin is very easy to use and very helpful if you want to manage your categories. If you ever face such a problem, do give this a try.

This is an awesome plugin. Madhur, does assigning multiple categories to a particular post help it rank better on google. Asking because the post will have a link from each of these category pages.

FYI, I just visited Aswin’s blog after reading your blog post. I could not see your blog post in the list of trackbacks there? Any reason for the same??

I dont think it helps with Google Rankings. Many people say that having multiple categories with the same posts can lead to duplicate content issues with Google. I dont know why the trackback is not there.

Madhur, thanks a lot for this blog post. Appreciate it very much.

Sita, I’m not sure as to why the trackback isn’t being shown. I will check that. Thanks for pointing it out.

I’m having trouble locating the download link. I’d like to try this plug-in. Could you please direct me to the download location?

      Thanks

Thank you! This is hugely helpful. :)

(In the new design of WP-Admin, it appears to be Tools -> Assign Categories, rather than Manage -> Assign Categories, btw.)

This saved me a huge amount of effort when I just decided to make several new categories to organize all my uncategorized posts.
