If there are a lot of files that you wish to rename at a go, then you should try Ken Rename. It is a free program using which you can Batch Rename Files using some custom rules. It is also portable and requires no installation. It can be used for simple as well as complex renaming tasks.

You can remove or insert any part of filename, change the case of the filenames, add incrementing numbers or even use macros to make some new names. You can also define rules from such actions in the construction of new file names. You can also preview the filenames and can also use the Undo functionality in case of any error. It supports Unicode characters , Regular expressions and it can also integrate with the explorer menu.

      I agree with Kim. I used to use a piece of software similar to this, but what I like about this program is that it’s portable. Very useful since you can plunk it into a USB drive and make use of it elsewhere, even at an internet cafe if necessary.
