When you save a word document, a lot of metadata also gets saved with it. These metadata contain information such as Author name, last edit time, last print time, tracking changes etc and lots more. Such information is useful sometimes but it can lead to embarrassing situations when you are sending the file to some other person. Doc Scrubber is a free metadata removal application that can remove metadata from word files.

It helps you view the metadata information a word file contains or you can simple delete the metadata information. It will first analyze the document to find the hidden data the file contains and then it can remove it. You can use it to scrub multiple documents or you can scrub all documents in a folder.

The software is absolutely free and works with Word 97, 2000 and XP documents. Docx documents are not supported at the current time.

This is especially useful for writing competitions, where you’re not allowed to indicate on your paper, anything relating to your identity. Many people don’t realize that there’s all this other data embedded in these documents.
