You want to reduce an image size whenever you want to use the image in a webpage or online gallery so that the page loads faster. At the same time, you also want to ensure that the image quality is not compromised. RIOT known as Radical Image Optimization Tool is a freeware that helps you to reduce the size of the image by compressing and optimizing them to achieve a smaller size.

The program has a dual view interface which is quite attractive and easy to use. You can open multiple types of graphic files and you can save the optimized file in JPEG, PNG and GIF formats. It display the original and optimized images in two different panes and you can move the slider to increase and decrease the image quality. You can see its effect and real time. It also offers an option in JPEG setting using which you can compress the image to size you want. Settings will be slightly different if you want to save the images in GIF or PNG formats but most of the functions are same. It has other features like zooming, flipping, rotating etc.

There are other programs which also offers this function but if you are looking for a program with the specific purpose, this is the best. The program is also portable and works in Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista.

I just use the “Save as Web” that comes with Adobe Photoshop. More easier because sometimes I edit the image in Photoshop and just save it for web so the size will be compressed.
