Instant File Name Search is a simple and free software which improves upon the default search provided by Windows to provide faster results. It is an easy to use search tool using which you can search and find files on your Computer instantly.

On running it for the first time, the application will scan your Computer and will build an index of all the files. It can even scan the Computers which are on LAN. It also offers database management and you can also have multiple databases. You can also include and exclude certain files and extensions from your index. After the index has been created, you can search for files by name, keywords or can also use wildcard characters and Boolean operators. File search is fast and the results are displayed quickly. It has a feature called PowerSearch using which you can find specific programs. The interface is not the best but it simple to get used to. I tried searching on LAN but that feature didn’t seem to work.

If you are looking for a decent software to search for files locally, this is a nice option. It is a freeware and runs on Windows.
