Prevent Autorun.inf Virus with Panda USB Vaccine

26 June 2009 3 Comments

The Autorun.inf is a configuration files which defines the actions to be performed when a USB drive or CD/DVD is inserted into the Computer. Many malwares now use Autorun.inf file to spread infection as soon as a USB drive is inserted into the Computer. Panda USB Vaccine is a free utility which helps prevent malware infections through Autorun.inf file.

On executing the program, user can choose between two types of vaccination, “Computer Vaccination” and “USB Drive Vaccination”. Computer Vaccination disables Autorun completely so that no program from any USB/CD/DVD drive can auto execute. This disables Autorun on the whole Windows PC. The USB Vaccination can disable Autorun execution on a particular USB drive. The USB drive will behave normally but no Autorun.inf will be created/modified etc. It will prevent any program from executing automatically.

It only works on FAT and FAT 32 USB Drives. The program is very useful as most of the infections occur through Autorun files. It works on Windows as is free.
