Automatically Organize your Files with DropIt

DropIt is a freeware file organizer which can automatically sort files and folders based on certain rules. I normally end up downloading a lot of different files from the internet which end up on my desktop making it cluttered. Manually moving all the files to there designated place is a time consuming task. This is where DropIt comes in handy.

The program creates a folder on your desktop. You can define certain rules like moving mp3 files to a certain folder, moving doc files to Documents folder and so on. Now all you need to do is drop the files in the folder and DropIt will automatically move them to folder based on your rules. The program can move or even copy the files. It can even compress the files into a zip archive. The program supports 12 different actions which include Move, Copy, Compress, Extract, Rename, Delete, Open With, Create List, Create Playlist, Create Shortcut, Copy to Clipboard, Ignore. Files and folders can be filtered by using name, extension, location, size, date or by using regular expression.

The program also supports Folder Monitoring and it can monitor folders at regular intervals. You can even create separate rules for different types of profile which can even be password protected. A profile can also be associated with a specified folder.

The program is a free and open source. It runs on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. A portable version of the program is also available.
