Thanks for the links, especially the Blog-Op one. Although I do subscribe to my blog, I didn’t think of it as a backup solution as I use Blogger. Mostly, I have been using it as a way to know whether the feed itself is working and how the post renders in a reader.
Another site to look at is rss2twitter.com. It looks like, if you provide your twitter details and the feeds, it will automatically publish to twitter. Getting my hands dirty on this thing now.
