I recently participated in the DailyBlogTips Blog Writing Project : Tips and Tricks with my post on Promoting your blog . There were a total of 122 entries which covered variety of topics . There were a total of 44 entries in Bluejar’s How To Group Writing project . I spent whole of the last night reading them all and added a whole lot of new blogs to my Feed Reader . Whenever you start a blog , the main concern is how to make visitors come to your blog or how should you promote your blog to attract visitors and build a good network . I have been blogging for more than a year now and here are a few tips which i feel will definitely help a blogger in promoting there blog .

• Choose your own domain name . It gives your site the professional edge and builds your credibility around the blogosphere.
• Submit your blog URL to various search engines and prominent Blog Directories like Yahoo , Google , MSN , Technorati etc.
• Content is the king . Write about the topics that readers would love to read about and respond too.
• Link to other blogs while writing posts about similar topics.
• Leave relevant comments on other blogs.
• Mention your blog in places such as your email signature , your forum/social network profile or your visiting cards.
• Build a good online network through sites such as Facebook , Twitter , MyBlogLog etc and use them to promote your content.
• Always respond to comment on your blog , if some other blogger mentions your post in there blog , thank them cordially.
• Try to promote your blog in various forums by connecting with fellow bloggers.
• Keep in touch with fellow bloggers through IM or offline if possible
• Optimize your blog for Search Engine. Use relevant keywords and title . This will help you get a good amount of traffic from Search Engines.
• Participate in Link building campaign or Group Writing Project . These are a great place to get your blog noticed .

All the tips mentioned are not in any particular order . I wrote them as they came to mind . Feel free to tell me your suggestions .

With so many security flaws being found in Wordpress , it becomes necessary to update wordpress and take a backup of your blog . BackupWordpress is a plugin that will allow you to perform automatic backup of your blog at scheduled times . It can even mail you the backups at your specified email .

This plugin operates in two modes

• Easy Mode : This is a simple mode in which you have to specify the backup directory , the backup schedule and settings related to email
• Advanced Mode : In this mode , you get a lot of options which include managing custom schedules , viewing backup log , managing backup presets etc.
  

You can even take backups manually and mail it to yourself if you dont want automatic backups. You can also specify the number of previous backups which you want to keep at the server. You can download this plugin from here .
