Find and Remove Similar Music files with Similarity

22 July 2009 2 Comments

If you have a large music collection containing a lot of duplicate files, then finding them and getting rid of them can take a lot of time. Similarity is a free program that helps you to find and remove similar and duplicate music files with the same or similar sound content and music tags. The good thing about the program is that it also checks the similarity of a sound part and not just music tags or file content.

You can adjust the sensitivity of searching criteria to find exact or similar files so it is possible to identify similarly titles with smaller differences. The program also analyzes the artist, title, album information from the music tags contained in the audio files and compare these with the appropriate entries in other files. The duplicate files can be deleted or browsed. You can also sort the list of duplicate files and export it as a playlist to check and verify them. Some of its features are

  • Three powerful comparing algorithms (content based, tags based and experimental).
  • The format it supports are MP3, MP2, OGG, WMA, ASF, FLAC, APE, WF, WMA.
  • It also has a tag editor and tag and file naming tool.
  • Very fast sound content scanning.
  • Search local PC and over network.
  • Find duplicate from a selected set of folders

The program is a freeware and works on Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/7.

There are actually softwares built to find duplicate files. They work universally for each file and check content of file. I won’t like to shift to another software for audio duplication checking I guess. Good software though *thumbs up*
