Search Files in Your Computer With Locate 32
If you are tired of the default slow search in Windows XP, it is time to give Locate 32 a try which can search for your files with Lightening speed. The save the name of all the files in your computer to files databases and hence the search is very fast.
On running the application for the first time, you will have to build a database file. Then it will sit in your system tray and will add/update files in the database at specified scheduled times. You can also specify the location that has to be indexed and can also have several database. Since the indexing can hog down your system, you can specify a maximum CPU usage before starting the job. After the files have been indexed, the search will be performed in a second.
Other than that, it can also search within text files and you can specify all the types of search parameters such as date, time, location, file size etc.
It is open source and completely free of cost. It is much better than the default Windows XP search which is very slow. It supports Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP and Vista.
