iPodME

iPodME is a free and open source software using which you can convert your videos to MP4 format which can then be played on iPods and iPhone. There are other similar software available but its simple and lightweight nature makes it stand out. It is also a portable application and requires no installation or no worries about any codecs and stuff.

The GUI is very simple and it is easy to use even for normal user. To convert something, simple drag and drop the files into the window. It offers some pre defined profiles which can be used based on the encoding speed and quality and resolution of the video. You can also create a custom profile if you want more control over the way that you want to convert your video files. You can select the resolution of the video and the program will convert to that resolution or something near that while keeping the aspect ratio intact. It comes with built in encoders and you can choose between x264 and Xvid. It also supports batch conversion of files. If you also have a subtitle file of the same name in the folder, the subtitles will also be encoded into the converted video. The converted videos will be saved in the folder which contains the iPodME executable file. The speed and quality of the conversion is also great.

The program is one of the best converter programs available for iPods and iPhones. It is free as well as open source and requires Windows XP/Vista and .Net Framework 2.0 or newer.
